Learning More About C mount and CS mount Threading

Threading in the category of c-mount cameras refer to the "female" threading on the video surveillance camera. The hole that leads to the security cameras chip-set surface is the area threaded, by a machine to receive the male threads from a lens. C-mount and cs-mount threading are commonly used with movie cameras, t.v cameras, digital cameras, and CCD CCTV surveillance cameras. This page is geared towards CCTV cameras. The threads made for a c-mount fitting are made 1 inch apart. There are 32 threads per inch, which is an industry standard for ANSI unified screw threads. This is the standard across the board for all c-mount cameras. If you bought a c-mount camera from another whole-seller, distributor, and or retailer, before buying a lens from another store, make sure you have the correct lens. Some lenses might not fit due to the type of mount you have. If you have c-mount camera, you might need an adapter, threaded to fit onto the camera. If you are unsure about what type of camera you have read up on the differences between a c-mount and cs-mount camera.

What Is A T-Mount Thread?

T-mount first originated from a company called, Tamron. In 1957, Tamron introduced a universal lens mount for 35mm cameras. The idea was to have a thread that in the rear would adapt to any lens. After attaching a specific adapter these made astronomy photography take off. Because of this great achievement in engineering this enabled the stocking of T-mount adapters, that launched astrophotography. Without this inexpensive and easy to use adapter, astrophotography might have gotten off to a slower start. However, in relationship to c-mount cameras, there is no real t-mount thread needed for the application of CCTV security cameras.

What Are F-Mount and S-Mount Fittings?

S-Mount Lens

All these mounts are used to fit lenses to different types of video surveillance cameras. S-mounts, also known as, EF lens, it was created for a subset of Canon digital single reflex cameras APS-C sized image sensors. EF-S stands for short back focus. In photography it basically means the rear element of a lens is closer to the image sensor on a regular 35mm lens SLR camera. This is important because the closer this is to the rear element of the image sensor, the wider your shot will be. Naturally for photo-shoots or photo-shots where wide a lenses are needed.

F-Mount Lens

F-mount lens is an interchangeable style of mount that allows for 35mm lens to fit onto Nikon cameras. It was introduced in 1959 and features a three lug bayonet mount with a 44mm throat and flange to focal plane distance of 46.5mm. F-mount has the largest variety of interchangeable flange-mount photographic lens in history. Thus, F-mount lenses are more popular and used in photography and digital SLR cameras than CCTV security cameras.
