C-mount dimension are the format of a each camera's CCD chip-set size. There are several different dimensions. You have a 1/3 inch chip-set, 1/4 inch chip-set,
and 1/2 inch chip-set. Each of these chip-sets defines a different picture and dimension of video. The most common of these CCD chip-sets is the 1/3 inch chip-set.
This chip-set fits well with most lenses and formats a very nice bright and crisp video. You see 1/2 inch chip-sets with security cameras that have very low lux ratings. By low-lux
we mean a c-mount camera that can see in the dark in color. Although starlight c-mount cameras cannot see in total darkness, they can see in color right before
there is no light at all. The bigger the chip-set will allow more light to pass through the camera and in certain settings this is crucial in order to get the best
picture.

C-mount cameras are very small security cameras. They are often refereed to as the box style video surveillance cameras. They look just like tiny boxes. In fact, these
c-mount cameras are so small that they literally can fit into the palm of your hand. The average dimensions of most c-mount cameras are 5 inches long and 2 and a 1/2
inches wide. Most c-mount cameras are this size. The only variable distance are the starlight c-mount cameras and the new optical lens c-mount cameras that can zoom with
out changing their lens. However majority of the c-mount cameras in the CCTV industry are small, they naturally go great in any indoor application.
